Specification and site notes
Reading the pressure class
PN is the working pressure the pipe sustains at 20 °C for the design life, and it is set by SDR. Size the network on the operating pressure plus the surge allowance, then pick PN, not the other way round. PN 6 to PN 10 covers most gravity and low-lift distribution; PN 16 and PN 20 belong on pumping headers and hilly zones.
Butt fusion versus electrofusion
Butt fusion is the economical method for straight runs from about 63 mm OD upward and gives a joint as strong as the pipe wall. Electrofusion is for fittings, tie-ins, repairs and constrained trenches where a butt machine cannot be squared up. Both give a fully welded, continuous line with no gasket to age.
Potable water compliance
Specify virgin food-grade PE 100 resin, not reprocessed material. QFlow conforms to IS 4984 and ISO 4427 for potable carriage; test certificates for the despatched batch should accompany every delivery on a drinking water package.
Coils and long runs
Coils can be ordered up to 125 mm OD, though from 63 mm upward the default supply form is 6 m sticks. On rural distribution the coiled sizes are what let a service loop go in with very few joints, and fewer joints means fewer leak paths, which is the whole point on a Jal Jeevan Mission scheme judged on how much water it loses.
