Agricultural & Drip Irrigation
Field drainage and pressure water lines for the same farm.
Overview
Two jobs on one farm: perforated Alcorr DWC drains excess water out of the soil so the land does not waterlog, and solid-wall QFlow carries pressurised water to sprinklers and drip lines.
Specification
- Product range: Alcorr DWC + QFlow Solid-Wall
- Standard: IS 16098 / IS 4984
- Drainage Sizes: ID 75 mm to ID 400 mm
- Pressure Sizes: 20 mm to 250 mm OD
- Standards Used: IS 16098 + IS 4984
Why HDPE here
- Perforated Alcorr DWC pulls the water table down, which keeps salt out of the root zone
- QFlow pressure lines carry water from canal lift schemes to the field
- Tough enough to take tillage equipment above it and cattle across it
Typical deployments
- Canal lift schemes
- Sprinkler and drip headers
- Sub-surface farm dewatering
- Saline land reclamation
Specification and site notes
Two networks, one package
The drainage side and the supply side are different products doing opposite jobs: perforated Alcorr DWC lowers a high water table, QFlow solid-wall carries pressurised water to the sprinkler or drip header. Specifying both from one supplier keeps one delivery schedule against the sowing calendar.
Perforation and envelope
Factory-slotted DWC gives uniform intake along the run. Wrap the drain in a geotextile envelope in fine or silty soils; without it the slots clog with fine soil within a season or two and the drain stops working long before the pipe does.
Drain spacing and depth
Spacing and depth follow how fast water moves through that soil and how far the water table has to drop, not the pipe. Get the drainage design done for the block first; the pipe schedule falls out of it.
Surviving the farm
Field lines take tillage equipment above them and livestock across them. The flexible DWC profile deflects and recovers where a rigid drain would shatter, and coiled QFlow, available to order up to 125 mm OD, goes in with very few joints to be disturbed.
FAQ
What pipe is used for sub-surface farm drainage?
Factory-perforated Alcorr DWC HDPE, ID 75 mm to ID 400 mm, to IS 16098 (Part 2). The slots give uniform groundwater intake, and the flexible profile survives tillage traffic above the line.
Does a field drain need a geotextile wrap?
In fine or silty soils, yes. Without an envelope the perforations clog with fine soil within a season or two and the drain stops working long before the pipe itself has any problem.
What pipe carries water to a drip or sprinkler system?
QFlow solid-wall HDPE to IS 4984, 20 mm to 250 mm OD. Coils can be ordered up to 125 mm OD, so drip laterals and sub-mains go in with very few joints; from 63 mm upward 6 m sticks are the default supply form.
How does sub-surface drainage help with saline land?
Salt builds up when a high water table brings salts up to the root zone and evaporation concentrates them. Lowering the table with a perforated drain network and leaching downward is the standard reclamation approach, and the drain is what makes the leaching possible.
